Sam Henderson, Hanshi, 8th Dan

Training History
Henderson began training in Shi Toh Ryu Karate at the Mobile Karate Club, in Mobile, Alabama, in April 1971. Hugh Kelly, chief instructor and 7th degree black belt, and John McLain, a 4th degree black belt, conducted the training. Henderson was under the Seiyu Karate Union directed by Master Shiyogo Kuniba of Osaka, Japan.

When his occupation moved him to Laurel, Mississippi in 1974, he began training in Shotokan Karate under Gerald Giles, a 4th degree black belt. During this time he became part of the United States Karate Association (USKA), under Robert A. Trias of Phoenix, Arizona.

Henderson remained a member of the USKA until 1990 when he joined the American Society of Ninja (ASON) with Greg Strong of Mobile, Alabama.

In 2001, Henderson was honored to become part of the International Matsumura Seito Society (IMSS), under the direction of the late Dave Shelton, Soke, 10th Dan.

Sensei Bufkin's introduction to martial arts was through Shotokan, studying under Shihan David Mabry of Jackson, MS for over three years. Sensei Bufkin has been studying under Sensei Henderson since, assisting with class instruction. He has tested and been conferred the Shodan, Nidan, and Sandan ranks through the George County Karate Club.

Training / Personal History

Jourdan began his study of karate-do under Sensei Sam Henderson in July 2002. Jourdan trained in Shorin-ryu Seibukan at the Burnside Karate Academy (Hattiesburg, MS) from 2011 - 2015. Jourdan maintains American Heart Association CPR/AED certification at the Healthcare Provider level and is a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Responder (NREMR). Jourdan resides in Hammond, Louisiana and updates the karate club's website remotely.
